"All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up."
(Read more at http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/p/pablo_picasso.html#3TEmiJelrc3tpcC1.99)My immediate reaction to this is that it applies to writing too. We are all writers once we learn to read and write. The problem is how to remain a writer once we grow up. I am a writer. My problem is that in order to write I need space to do it. I need to have time to think, time to be quiet, time to daydream, time to write. I cannot write usually if I am in a rush. I certainly can't write something long like a short story or a novel if I don't have time to immerse myself into my thoughts. Writing comes from a place in me usually that is separate from the mommy-me that is usually running my life. It is hard to get to that place most of the time. Even now.
Looking at Picasso's quotes about art I see a lot of them (not all certainly) apply to writing as well as art. Makes sense since writing IS an art.
I really miss writing. I need to find more time to do it. I need to find more time to "do nothing" so that I can do the writing that comes after the doing nothing.
