Topical Thursday- National Poetry Day!

It's National Poetry Day today in the UK. I've written a lot of poetry in my life, and occasionally been asked to recite some. I remember once for a school assignment I had to find a poem and recite it. I can't remember what grade I was in. I know that most of my classmates chose poets such as Dickinson, Tennyson, Poe, and other great classics. I went a different route. I picked up a book of children's poetry from the Buckland Library and got stuck on "The Purple Cow". It's short, it's simple, and it was fun. My teacher was not amused, I remember that. I'm not sure if she made me redo the assignment or not, but I remember the poem. I didn't know the name of the poet until today when I looked it up.

So in honor of National Poetry Day, I present to you the Purple Cow--

from Wikipedia-  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purple_Cow
Purple Cow is the name of a well-known poem by Gelett Burgess, written in 1895:
The original "Purple Cow," from 1895
I never saw a purple cow;
I never hope to see one;
but I can tell you anyhow;
I'd rather see than be one![1]
