Muscular Dystrophy Association, Inc.

Abby's school is doing a Hop-A-thon in March. Here is the "Waiver, Release, & Consent" form that they want us to sign. We refuse to sign it by the way, but I want everyone to see it.:
" Muscular Dystrophy Association Inc.
Waiver, Release & Consent
Name of Event:
Dates: Return by March 17th

In consideration of MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY ASSOCIATION, INc. ("MDA(R)") permitting (me) (my child ________ who is under 18) to participate in the above-named event, I hereby, and for (my)(my child's) heirs, executors, administrators, assigns, and all legal guardians WAIVE AND RELEASE ANY AND ALL RIGHTS AND CLAIMS OF ANY NATURE, FOUNDED IN WHOLE OR IN PART UPON ANY TYPE OF NEGLIGENCE, that (I)(my child) may have against MDA, its directors, officers, employees, agents, chapters, assignees, licensees, volunteers and cooperating entities, their representatives, heirs, executors, administrators, successors, and assigns (the "Released Parties") arising out of or resulting from any and all injuries or damages of any nature, including death, which (I) (my child) may suffer while taking part in the event or any activities connected with the event. I UNDERSTAND THIS MEANS THAT I AGREE NOT TO SUE any or all of the Released Parties in connection with the event.

Consent also is hereby given to use (my) (my child's) name, picture, portrait, likeness, writings, or biographical information (including, if applicable, neuromuscular disease diagnosis), and audiotape and/or videotape recordings and sound or silent motion pictures of (me)(my child) in any media for editorial, education, promotional, and advertising purposes, for the solicitation of contributions, and for any other purpose in furtherance of the corporate purposes and objectives of MDA.

By signing this document, I certify that I have read this document and fully understand it, and that I am not relying on any statements or representations of any Released Party. This document shall be binding upon me, (my) (my child's) heirs, executors, administrators, assigns, and all legal guardians (of my child).

Now I understand the first paragraph is about covering their butts, but the 2nd paragraph is about them using my child for "corporate purposes and objectives". No thanks!!!

Latest in vacation planning...

By the way, the NYC trip seems to be out now. Hotels are just too expensive. Latest hope is a trip to southeastern Massachusetts and to Providence, Rhode Island. We'll see if it happens. The idea is to go to the Roger Williams Park zoo and the Wrentham Premium outlets with a hotel night in between.

Is anyone out there?

I rarely post here anymore, huh? I don't have that many readers from what I can tell and I don't know what you all want to hear about anyway. SO if you are reading this, please speak up and leave a comment. Let me know you are out there. Ask a question, leave a comment, do something.. give me a clue.

With Valentine's Day coming up, a Bible quote

Since Valentine's Day is a few days away, I thought it would be nice to quote Corinthians. 1 Corinthians 13 to be exact. Here goes--

1If I speak in the tongues[a] of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames,[b] but have not love, I gain nothing.

4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Hoping for a vacation, even a short one....

January has been a tight month for us financially. It always is and I think it is true for a lot of people. Car repairs, holiday credit card bills, property taxes... they all seem to come at once. At the same time we are looking at the new calendar and saying "What can we do this year?" A trip to Texas would be nice, but probably out of our budget. A trip to Pennsylvania could be fun, but I don't think it's going to happen. We're still paying for preschool whether Abby is in class or not, so realistically what we are looking at is a few long weekends here and there. Hopefully next year we can plan a vacation at the end of August. Give the kid a short break between Preschool and kindergarten. That's my hope anyway. So here we are back to 2010, and the preschool bills remain. So what can we do??? My latest hope is that we can manage to swing a trip to New York City at the end of March. I know that is crazy talk with the way our money is right now, but if we don't go places once in a while, I go a little crazy. Last year we did a trip to Maine and Boston in March, and I had thought about doing that again. However, my husband and daughter are big fans of the show "Penguins of Madagascar" right now. The show takes place at the Central Park Zoo. So why not head there? Let's go check it out and see the place in person, hit a museum, admire some skyscrapers, etc.. I hope it works out and we can go. I know hotels in NYC are NOT cheap. I know money is tight right now, but still I need to get out of town sometime! Fingers crossed.
